Fibre failover · business continuity

Business internet failover for the Western Cape

A cable-theft incident on the street takes the office offline for a day. A Fibre Failover Kit takes it offline for moments: a dual-WAN router in your cabinet, a second link that does not depend on the fibre, and automatic switchover — tested every quarter so the backup is known to work before you need it.

The problem

What stops when the internet stops

Most businesses discover their dependence on one cable on the day a contractor cuts it, a thief lifts it or the provider has an outage. The repair is measured in days; the losses start in minutes.

Card machines and point of sale

No link, no sales. Retailers, restaurants and practices feel it first.

Phones

VoIP and cloud PBX systems go silent, and customers hear a dead line.

Cloud software

Accounting, bookings, practice management, email and files live online now.

Cameras, access control, remote staff

Security feeds, alarms that report over IP, and anyone working from the branch or from home.

The Fibre Failover Kit

What is in it

  • Dual-WAN router or firewall in your cabinet — Adtran, Cisco or Juniper, chosen for the site
  • A second link independent of the fibre: LTE for most offices, OneWeb for sites that need real capacity or have no usable mobile signal
  • Automatic switchover when the fibre fails, and automatic return when it recovers
  • Rules for what runs over the backup: card machines, phones, cloud apps and cameras first; bulk downloads held back
  • Quarterly failover test with a short written result, under the managed-service option
  • Monitoring and alerts on both links on Adtran Mosaic One
  • A one-page "what happens when the fibre goes down" sheet for your staff

Option A — LTE standby

For offices with good mobile signal at the cabinet and modest needs during an outage. Router, LTE link and switchover installed in a morning; the SIM and plan on your account or ours.

Option B — OneWeb standby

For sites with weak signal, sites that cannot afford to share a congested mobile network during a street-wide outage, and sites that need the backup to carry everything. A OneWeb terminal installed, earthed and activated as the standby link — the Business Continuity package.

How it works

Three steps to a tested backup

1

Tell us what you run on

Card machines, phones, cloud apps, cameras — and a photo of the cabinet. We check the mobile signal and the cabinet during a short visit or the network health check.

2

We propose the second link

LTE or OneWeb, the router, and the rules for the backup. A written quote with the managed-service option; most office installs take half a day on site.

3

We test it with you — and every quarter

We pull the fibre and watch the office stay up, then hand over the one-page sheet. Under the SLA, we repeat the test every quarter and send the result.

Who it is for

Anyone whose card machines, phones and cloud apps stop when the internet stops

Practices and agencies

Medical, dental, legal, accounting, estate agencies — appointments, billing and files online all day.

Retail and hospitality

Stores, restaurants and guest houses where the card machine is the business.

Warehouses and control rooms

Dispatch, scanners, cameras, telematics and the people watching them.

After a theft

Already down? We can install the standby link first and keep you working while the fibre is repaired — then it stays as your backup.

Questions

Before you ask for the quote

LTE or OneWeb — which second link?

LTE suits offices with good mobile signal at the cabinet and modest needs during an outage. OneWeb suits sites with weak signal, sites that cannot afford to share a congested mobile network during a street-wide outage, and sites that need the backup to carry everything. We test the signal at your cabinet during the health check.

How fast does switchover happen?

Automatically, within moments of the router detecting that the fibre is down, and back again when it recovers. Calls in progress may need to re-establish; new calls, card machines and cloud apps carry on.

Do you test it?

Yes. We test the failover with you at hand-over by pulling the fibre, and under the managed-service option we repeat the test every quarter and send a short written result.

Does it work with our existing router?

Usually. The failover router sits between the fibre and your network; your ISP and internal network stay as they are. Where the existing router cannot do dual-WAN, we replace it with one that can.
