OneWeb LEO satellite connectivity

OneWeb LEO satellite connectivity, installed and supported by FCP Group

FCP Group is an authorised OneWeb reseller, delivered through NEC XON, the OneWeb distributor for South Africa. OneWeb provides the low Earth orbit network; FCP handles the site survey, mounting, cabling, activation and the support afterwards.

In plain terms

A business-grade link that does not depend on a cable in the ground

OneWeb is a low Earth orbit satellite network built for business and government connectivity. A compact terminal on your roof or a short pole tracks the satellites passing overhead and hands the connection to your router over an Ethernet port, like any other service. Because the satellites orbit close to Earth, the service is designed for everyday business applications — voice, video calls, cloud software, cameras and remote access — at sites no fibre, microwave or mobile link reaches, or as an independent second path for sites that cannot afford an outage.

FCP is never OneWeb and never NEC XON: we are the reseller and the installer. What we add is the part that decides whether the link works on the day the generator trips or the fibre is cut — the survey, the mount, the earthing, the cable, the router rules and the person who answers the phone.

Who it is for

Four kinds of site, and what we design for each

OneWeb terminal at a lodge with bush behind it

Lodges and reserves

Bookings, card machines, guest Wi-Fi and staff comms fail on weak mobile signal or long microwave hops, and a peak-season outage costs reviews and revenue. We design the Hospitality package: terminal, point-to-point links between buildings, managed guest and staff Wi-Fi with a captive portal, and a cellular booster where phones need it.

Renewables and remote industrial

SCADA, CCTV, operations and maintenance remote access and compliance reporting need a dependable primary or secondary link at substations far from fibre. We patch the terminal into the site firewall as a routed primary or secondary link, with addressing set up for the operator's remote-access requirements.

Essentials or Business Continuity →
Packhouse with the OneWeb terminal on the roof

Farms and packhouses

Cold-chain telemetry, payroll, the weighbridge, cameras and cloud software on patchy mobile data. Essentials gives the office and the packhouse a steady link; the CCTV backhaul add-on puts the cameras on their own segment with remote viewing.

LEO Essentials →

Urban failover

Card machines, VoIP and cloud apps down for hours or days after cable theft or a fibre cut. Business Continuity installs OneWeb as the standby link behind a dual-WAN firewall with automatic switchover, rules for what runs during an outage, and a quarterly failover test.

Fibre failover →

Also: mines, quarries and construction camps that need a link in days and may move it later; clinics, schools and municipal sites where fibre is absent or cut.

How it works

Three steps from your map pin to a live link

1

Desktop pre-survey — free

Send the building's GPS pin, six photos (the building and surroundings, the mounting spot, the sky to the north and south from that spot, the cable entry, the equipment room) and a short power-and-mounting questionnaire. Within two working days you get a go / no-go / needs-a-visit answer and the package that fits.

2

Survey, design and quote

Where the desktop check cannot settle the antenna position, the cable route, the power or a multi-building layout, a technician visits and writes up the site in FCP's standard survey report. The survey fee is credited in full against the install when you proceed. You then get the design, drawing and quote, with good and better options where useful.

3

Install, activate, support

FCP orders the terminal through NEC XON and books the install. Mount, cable, earth, indoor unit, router or firewall, Wi-Fi; service turned up and tested; photos, serials, as-installed drawing and a signed acceptance certificate at hand-over. Then monitoring and support under your package.

What an FCP install includes

Survey → design → install → activation → managed support

  • Desktop pre-survey and a written go / no-go before any site visit
  • Site survey report in FCP's standard format where a visit is needed
  • Health and safety file, risk assessment and method statement for the install
  • OneWeb user terminal — outdoor antenna unit, indoor unit and power supply — supplied through NEC XON
  • Mounting chosen at survey: wall bracket, short pole or a non-penetrating roof mount where drilling is not allowed
  • Outdoor-to-indoor cable run, weatherproofed and labelled at both ends; corrosion protection on cut steel and connectors
  • Earthing and surge protection, lugged, heat-shrunk and labelled
  • Indoor unit on a UPS-protected outlet; router or firewall configured — Adtran, Cisco or Juniper, chosen for the site
  • Activation on your OneWeb plan and a throughput test at hand-over
  • Photos of every step, serial numbers recorded, as-installed drawing, signed acceptance certificate
  • FCP as your first line of support; network faults escalated to NEC XON and OneWeb
  • Monitoring and a service level agreement according to the package

Installed, signed off, in service

Eight OneWeb sites installed and signed off at renewable-energy, municipal transport and retail sites in the Eastern and Western Cape.

Three wind-farm substations, three consecutive days

For a renewable-energy operator in the Eastern Cape: open coastal terrain with a clear sky view, terminals wall-mounted beside the existing comms poles, indoor units on UPS-protected outlets in the plant rooms, patched to each site's firewall as a secondary, redundant link for operations and remote access. Surveyed in June, installed over three consecutive days by one crew, acceptance certificates signed the following week.

Transport and clinic sites for a metropolitan authority

Four bus-station and clinic sites where fibre was absent or unreliable: surveyed, designed, installed and activated through the distributor channel, with the same hand-over pack on every site — photos, serials, earthing and weatherproofing evidence, throughput test and a signed acceptance certificate.

Client names are shared on request and with the client's written consent.

Questions we get asked

OneWeb, answered plainly

Is FCP Group OneWeb?

No. FCP Group is an authorised OneWeb reseller. The service is delivered through NEC XON, the OneWeb distributor for South Africa; FCP Group surveys, installs, activates and supports your site, and escalates network faults to NEC XON and OneWeb.

Where can OneWeb be installed?

Anywhere in South Africa with a clear view of the sky: lodges and reserves, farms and packhouses, mines, construction and renewable-energy sites, and town businesses that want a second link independent of the fibre. Our own crews cover the Western and Eastern Cape; sites further afield are installed through the distributor channel or quoted with travel.

What does an FCP Group OneWeb install include?

A desktop pre-survey, a site survey where needed, the mounting, earthing and cabling of the terminal, activation, integration into your network (router or firewall, Wi-Fi, CCTV or VoIP as needed), a hand-over pack with photos, serial numbers and a signed acceptance certificate, and managed support. Packages are Essentials, Hospitality and Business Continuity.

How fast is it and what does it cost?

Plan options and costs are confirmed per site after the survey, because the right package depends on how many people and systems the link carries. Request a site survey and we send a written proposal with good and better options.

Can OneWeb work as a backup for our fibre?

Yes. The Business Continuity package pairs the OneWeb terminal with a dual-WAN router that switches over automatically when the fibre fails and back when it returns, with a quarterly failover test.

What happens after the install?

FCP Group remains your point of contact for support, monitoring and changes, with managed-service options that include quarterly checks and a health report. Network faults are escalated by us to NEC XON and OneWeb.

Request a site survey

Start with the free desktop pre-survey

Send the form. We reply within two working days with a go / no-go and the package that fits, and book a site visit only where it is needed.

  • GPS pin of the building (a screenshot of the map pin is fine)
  • Six photos: building and surroundings, mounting spot, sky north and south from that spot, cable entry, equipment room
  • Power at the mount and in the equipment room; UPS, generator or solar; roof and wall type
  • Existing router or firewall and internet provider; site access and safety rules
